Fly Business Class with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines

The national carrier of the Netherlands was founded on October the 7th, 1919. With the headquarters in Amstelveen, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines grew as big as 107 aircrafts at the moment, and is continuously developing. The flag carrier has evolved their global network, connecting with partners from SkyTeam Alliance, and operating flights to the most popular destinations worldwide. KLM Royal Dutch Business Class can take you to 5 different continents while guaranteeing comfort and reliability.

Flying Blue, their loyalty program, extends beyond KLM, offering partner flights with carriers like Air France, Delta and Kenya Airways. You can even earn miles for flights which are not connected to their main hub, Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, like Aeromexico in North America, Garuda Indonesia in Asia, and Middle East Airlines in the Middle East. This unlocks not only new destinations, but also a variety of lounges, even in the cities in which KLM doesn’t fly directly.

Airport Experience with KLM Royal Dutch Business Class

KLM is constantly demonstrating their commitment to a smooth and pleasant experience for their passengers at the primary hub at Schipol Airport. The airport is famous for their facilities, including art galleries, shopping options and excellent culinary choices.

Traveling in The Royal Dutch Airlines Business Class from Amsterdam will encounter a terminal and security checkpoint that are pretty straightforward to navigate. The SkyPriority section, reserved for Business Class, SkyTeam Elite, and Elite Plus passengers, offers expedited security access. Inside the airport, KLM maintains two distinct lounges: one for Schengen flights and another for non-Schengen destinations. Recently, they have also developed a new area, showing an impressive collection of Genever-filled Dutch houses, which is a unique present for long haul Business Class travelers. The whole space covers 6800 square meters, over 2 levels, with features like dining areas, bars, workspaces, sleeping rooms, showers and a very nice outside balcony for plane watching.

Besides the usual comfort and premium facilities, the airport’s lounge offers a pleasant escape from the at times crowded terminal. Champagne, wine and different types of liquors, all served at the self-service bars. You can also find their renowned Heineken being offered almost everywhere. Sweet, sour and savory snacks along with different types of fruits and vegetables are consistently available. Cheeses, biscuits, stews, pasta and other delectable items, all these are available at KLM Airlines Business Class Lounge.

Of course you will also have the usual amenities like Wi-Fi, computer workstations, and relaxation areas, and besides all this being available at Amsterdam Airport, you can find these in Houston and Toronto as well. In other cities, business class passengers will benefit from the lounges offered by one of their partner airlines, which include Delta airlines, Air France, Virgin Atlantic airways and other Sky Team Alliance members.

KLM Royal Dutch Business Class Cabin & Seat

The KLM business class seats turn into a fully flat bed for all the long haul routings which are operated by them. The seat configuration depends on the type of the aircraft. If you take a closer look at each of them you can distinguish different design elements, such as the crown logo of the carrier, patterned in the fabrics of the seats and carpets, with their main color palette of blue, brown and gray. Every single seat is accompanied by a pillow and duvet blanket, to ensure a calming experience.

Plenty of room is being offered for all the business class passengers, in order to make sure that the trip goes as smoothly as possible. Some small bonuses are available as well, like magazine pockets and outlets for both USB and power charging devices.

The Business Class in KLM ’s long haul aircrafts, which mainly consist of Airbus A330s and Boeing 777s, usually have the seat arrangement 2-2-2, some with forward facing confirmation, some with the herringbone one. However, the newest version of Boeing 787 Dreamliners, have 1-2-1 layout. This will ensure that the business class passengers who prefer window seats, will have easy access to the aisle. If you are opting for a flight with a 2-2-2 configuration, you may select your preferred seat in advance on most of the KLM flights, however you should keep in mind that the window passenger will have to step over the aisle passenger.

Whether you are traveling alone or with your partner, the Dreamliner is usually the best choice for you. For solo passengers, you may opt for the window seats to ensure full privacy, for the pair of travelers, any adjacent seats are suitable. The seat dividers are present to ensure the maximum privacy and comfort even if you are opting for a middle row seat.

KLM Royal Dutch Business Class Cuisine

The Netherlands Flag Carrier provides different dining options. On some of the flights, travelers can benefit from a “dine anytime” service, choosing meals according to their preference and time. However most of KLM’s flights have a fixed schedule for meals, which are typically served a short period after the takeoff, being followed by another one before landing.

The experience starts from a wide choice of aperitifs, nuts or Dutch Cheese. As a cute bonus for their business class passengers, everybody will get a toothpick with the Dutch flag. Next in line the appetizers and salads are being served, stylishly arranged on the plate. The whole menu is created by the famous Dutch chef Jonnie Boer. Marcel Wanders is the person responsible for the design of the crown logo and all the other trademarks.

One of the main distinguishing features of KLM is the distribution of olive oil with warm bread. Each menu is designed and personalized for each flight according to the travel date and destination, which adds a thoughtful touch to the whole flight experience. Sure thing, post-meal beverages are included, like tea and coffee.

The dine-on-demand service meal is being prepared by the flight attendant in the galley area, with a most impressive presentation, however you should keep in mind that it takes longer than the pre-ordered meals.

For certain routes, for example flights to China and Korea, the menu features traditional dishes created by local chefs and are served on specially designed Asian silverware. Menus for flights to and from India are created in partnership with the chefs from Oberoi Hotel Group. For Japan routes, the carrier collaborates with Chef Masanori Tomikawa of the Michelin-starred Yamazato restaurant in Amsterdam, offering Japanese noodles, snacks, sake, Oolong, and Japanese teas.

KLM Royal Dutch Business Class Beverages

Travelers have the possibility to enjoy a glass of champagne, fruit juice or water. All these options are listed in the menus, and the cabin crew does an amazing job at optimizing the service efficiency due to which there's hardly any wait to enjoy a delicious drink. Once the plane departs, they are offering a choice of three white wines and two red wines, along with famous champagne like Nicolas Feuillatte Brut Grand Réserve.

For beer lovers, Heineken is offered on all of their flights. The menu also features a wide selection of spirits, liqueurs, and digestifs. Other options are usually orange juice, Campari as an aperitif, Bols Genever, and Perrier. The drink offerings are rounded out with a selection of coffee and diverse Dilmah teas.

Besides the usual drinks, the Royal Dutch carrier offers a unique cocktail named the Flying Dutchman, created with the oldest distilled spirit brand, Bols. It consists of a mix between Damrak gin, Bols blackberry liqueur, fresh lemon juice, sugar syrup, and ice.

All the passengers can request any beverage at any time. The cabin crew is constantly fulfilling their seats with bottles of water in order for all the travelers to feel comfortable at every single moment of the trip.

Also, occasionally they bring new drink ideas to their World Business Class. For example, in 2016, they worked with Heineken to create the first ever draught beer trolley for flights. They've also teamed up with the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam to offer wines with labels showing famous paintings from the museum, like the Night Watch Wines.

KLM Royal Dutch Business Class Amenities

The amenity kits on this carrier are created by a Dutch fashion designer Jan Taminiau and come with accessories like eyeshades, ear plugs, socks, toothbrush, toothpaste, and headphones. The lip balm and face moisturizer are sourced from famous Dutch brands like Rituals. The kits come with different colors, and designs that constantly get updated every year.

KLM is one of the airlines with clever touches, for example a hot towel is a nice way to begin a hot meal on a intercontinental flight. The refreshing facial sprays and hand lotions from the same brand are waiting in the lavatories. A thoughtful addition is the provision of small tins of Dutch Wilhelmina mints with meals. Slippers are offered exclusively on certain Asian routes.

Families which are traveling with kids and infants can request special seats with a bassinet, however please keep in mind that they are limited and have to be requested in advance.

Another iconic feature is The Delft Blue House collection, it is a tradition that dates back to 1952. During the last hour of the long-haul flights, the crew offers Genever-filled Delft houses, which are replicas of real Dutch buildings. Every single year, there is another building chosen to be celebrated. There is a dedicated app which can track these items.
